The Assignment: 2000
New Life Community Church is a testimony to the power of God and His desire to reach people in the St. Louis Metro-East area. In September, 2000 a young pastor named Kendall Granger was led by the Lord with a great vision to plant a church that would use practical methods to reach people with God’s message of hope through Jesus Christ. Armed with very little in the way of resources, Kendall, his wife Wyvetta, and their children formed a core group that initially met. Although these early meetings consisted of only 12 people, Kendall was undeterred in his belief of what God had told him.
The First Service: 2nd Sunday in September 2000
New Life Community Church began meeting at the St. Judah Lodge on Bond Avenue in Alorton, IL. The charter members of the church: along with his wife Wyvetta, children Lynneshea and Kendall Jr. the other members were Jessie Granger, Bonnie Granger, MC and Cassandra Johnson, Clotelle Denzmore, Shounita Brooks, Janice Brooks and Dorothy Granger. The first service was attended by about 50 people.
The Growth: August, 2001
As the Ministry began to grow, Pastor Granger shared the vision of their permanent location with the congregation to purchase their first building. After speaking to the owner he was not interested in selling the facility and the lease amount was out of the churches budget. The building remained empty and in God’s timing we move to the envisioned location 1919 State Street, East Saint Louis, IL in August 2001. The space was renovated and the Sanctuary was doubled, the building contained multiple restrooms, a fellowship hall which housed the children’s ministry, many classrooms, and two kitchens.
The Vision: January, 2006
Pastor Granger shared the vision of New Life Community Church becoming a church with the city surrounding it. He wanted New Life to be a beacon of hope for the community. A new building fund campaign was started for the new sanctuary and the people believed the word and step out in faith. The building was delayed but not denied.
Ground Breaking – August, 2011
God once again showed Himself awesome to New Life, and in 2011 New Life broke ground on the property dedicated to the work of the Lord.
